We’re delighted to introduce the latest addition to our blogging team, Emily. Looking forward to hearing regularly from her over the months to come.
My name is Emily Turner and I am an enthusiastic cultural omnivore, a people pleaser, a loyal friend, an excellent baker, a strong communicator, a bridge between people, and an engaging writer. As I’ve been working on identifying my strengths lately, I thought I’d introduce myself with them. Also, like many people my age, I think that trying to describe myself by a job title is either difficult or sells me short. However, I’ll give it a go.
I recently (as in, yesterday) finished my MA in Cultural and Creative Industries. Over my time in the course I took on two internships – one at a higher education institution and one at the BBC. I’d never really given serious thought to working in media before my BBC work experience, but I fell in love almost immediately so I am now trying to find myself a path that will lead me back there. I am also interested in finding professional opportunities that can make use of my social media skills as this is something I think I would be good at. To complicate matters, I am not an EU citizen so at the end of October I will have to head back to Canada for two months while I wait for a new UK visa to arrive so I can come back to London in the New Year. That means during my short time here I am going to be trying my best to pick up bits of work while making more contacts in my chosen fields. It is going to be a chaotic few months that I’m sure will be filled with ups and downs, but I’m looking forward to it!
